Turbomachinery

In mechanical engineering, turbomachinery describes machines that transfer energy between a rotor and a fluid, including both turbines and compressors. While a turbine transfers energy from a fluid to a rotor, a compressor transfers energy from a rotor to a fluid. The two types of machines are governed by the same basic relationships including Newton's second law of motion and Euler's energy equation for compressible fluids. Centrifugal pumps are also turbomachines that transfer energy from a rotor to a fluid, usually a liquid, while turbines and compressors usually work with a gas.

Fluid Mechanics

Fluid mechanics is the study of how fluids move and the forces on them. (Fluids include liquids and gases.) Fluid mechanics can be divided into fluid statics, the study of fluids at rest, and fluid dynamics, the study of fluids in motion. It is a branch of continuum mechanics, a subject which models matter without using the information that it is made out of atoms. The study of fluid mechanics goes back at least to the days of ancient Greece, when Archimedes made a beginning on fluid statics, which the medieval Muslim physicists, later combined with dynamics to give rise to fluid dynamics.However, fluid mechanics, especially fluid dynamics, is an active field of research with many unsolved or partly solved problems. Fluid mechanics can be mathematically complex. Sometimes it can best be solved by numerical methods, typically using computers. A modern discipline, called Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), is devoted to this approach to solving fluid mechanics problems. Also taking advantage of the highly visual nature of fluid flow is Particle Image Velocimetry, an experimental method for visualizing and analyzing fluid flow. Fluid mechanics is that branch of physics which deals with the properties of fluid,namely liquid and gases,and their interaction with forces.

HAL first time going to conduct the written test online for producing quick result and reducing the time. There is no much change in the format of question paper (i.e content of question), only the no. of questions may change and the answering is through the computer. Any how the information regarding Online Test not yet released in website, soon it will be published in website, you can frequently check the website www.hal-india.com and get the updated information.

Here i am giving the previous year question paper format.

Previous Question Paper Format:

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES APPEARING FOR THE COMPETITIVE WRITTEN TEST OF TWO AND HALF HOURS DURATION (1030 HOURS TO 1300 HOURS) FOR SELECTION AS MANAGEMENT TRAINEES ON SUNDAY , THE 20^thMay 2007

ï¿½ You are required to appear for the Written Test at the allotted Test Venue on the Date and Time specified.

ï¿½ Make sure that you occupy the seat allotted to you at the Test Venue by 0950 Hours. Seating arrangements will be displayed on the Notice Board at the Test venue.

ï¿½ Candidates are required to bring any of the following as a proof of their identity, having their photograph and signature, viz Passport, Voter's ID Card, Driving License, ID Card issued by the Academic Institution last attended etc., for verification. Candidates should bring the Admit Card with their Passport Size Photograph duly affixed. The Admit Card shall be signed by the Candidates only in the presence of the Invigilator.

ï¿½ Candidates have to ensure that they return the Question Booklet, Admit Card and OMR Answer Sheet after the Written Test to the Invigilator, failing which their candidature shall not be considered.

ï¿½ The Question Booklets are classified into SEVEN Disciplines as indicated below:

ï¿½ Each Question Booklet will have 160 Objective Type Questions, as indicated below (This is only indicative):

  Note
1.      The questions of different segments could be jumbled up and would vary in order from one series of Question Booklet to another series.
2.      There are no negative marks for incorrect answers.

4.      If any Candidate is found to be indulging in any kind of malpractice like copying, talking to other candidates, exchanging information, carrying/passing on chits of paper or any other mode to communicate with others, his/her candidature shall be cancelled.
5.      Electronic gadgets like Calculators, Mobile phones, Pagers, Beepers, any kind of Audio/Visual Devices, Digital Diaries, Organisers etc., shall not be permitted inside the Examination Hall. Hence, the Candidates are advised not to bring the same to the Test Centres.
6.      Candidates are required to appear for the Written Test at their own expense and will have to make their own arrangements for boarding and lodging.
7.      Further, consideration  of the candidature after the Written Test would be subject to :-
i)                    Candidates having passed the final Engineering Examination in the specified Branches of Engg (other than Aeronautical) indicated in the Advertisement, from any recognised Institution/University, with a minimum of 65% marks in the Aggregate of all Semesters in respect of General/OBC candidates and a minimum of 55% Marks in the Aggregate of all Semesters in respect of SC/ST candidates OR corresponding CGPA Ratings/Gradations. In the Aeronautical Branch, the minimum percentage of marks applicable shall be 60 % for Gen / OBC and 50 % for SC/ST respectively.
ii)                   Verification of Identity, Qualifications, Marks Scored, Age, Caste (for SC / ST / OBC only), PWD (Person with Disability) / Ex-servicemen etc. and Character and Antecedents from the Govt. authorities.
          8.   Requests for retotalling, revaluation and/or physical verification will not be entertained

INSTRUCTIONS TO CANDIDATES FOR ANSWERING
ON OMR ANSWER SHEET

Use only HB Pencil to mark the Ovals in the Answer Sheet.
Use Ball Point Pen to fill the Boxes (i.e. for the Roll Number)
Indicate the Question Booklet Series and Question Booklet Serial Number in the space provided on the OMR Answer Sheet without fail.
Please indicate the Discipline and the language in which the Test is given.
Please mark the relevant Ovals against the columns like Series, language opted etc.
Mark your answer only in the appropriate space against the Number corresponding to the question you are answering. Darken the response for each question as shown in the example below:

(i.e., if the answer to the Question is option A , then it needs to be darkened as above)
Please ensure that the Ovals are completely darkened.

Candidate Experience: 2

There was 2 section classified as
Section -I : Non-Technical
In Non Technical Section there was 50 Question which comprises of 10 question of quantitative Aptitude (time distance, speed, Percentage and profit & loss)
15 question from English having analogies, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, etc
25 question of Reasoning (Inductive reasoning, Logical reasoning, Critical reasoning, verbal and Non Verbal reasoning) paper was not too much tough

But u need to do some hard and smart work to be a part of Esteem HAL. Next section was technical having 100 Question.
In Metallurgical engineering ques were asked from physical Metallurgy book by V raghvan specifically from Engineering Metals and alloy. Total time allotted was 150min .

Training And Expences - Commercial Pilot Training

The Basic Prerequisites

i. You must complete your Class XII under the 10+2 system or its equivalent with a minimum of 50 per cent marks in Mathematics and Physics.

ii. You must be minimum 16 years of age to be eligible for a Private Pilot License and 17 for a Commercial Pilot License.

iii. Your vision in one eye must be perfect. In general medical terminology, it is called 6/6 eyesight. In the other eye, you could have an imperfection of 6/9, which must be correctable to 6/6.

iv. General physical fitness is mandatory. You must be free of any disease that can hamper normal function.

Student Pilot License

i. You must appear for a written theory examination in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology and Air Navigation and Air Technical.

ii. You must obtain a medical certificate of fitness from doctors designated by the Director General of Civil Aviation. Only two bodies in India -- Air Force Central Medical Establishment in New Delhi and the Institute of Aviation Medicine, Bangalore -- are authorised to give you a medical fitness certificate.

iii. You have to get a security clearance.

iv. You will need to appear for an oral examination and an aptitude test.

v. If the medical clearance comes through and you clear the exams, you will be granted the SPL.

Damages: You must furnish a bank guarantee of Rs 10,000.

Private Pilot Licence :

i. Post attaining the SPL, you will be assigned an instructor to start flying lessons. You will be taught the basics of flying and your instructor will accompany you on flights.

ii. After about 15 hours of flying with an instructor, ie dual flying, you can fly solo and go cross-country as well.

iii. To obtain a Private Pilot License, you have to fly a minimum of 60 hours. Of this, at least 20 hours should be solo flying and 5 hours should be cross-country flights.

iv. You will also need to appear for the written theory examinations in subjects like Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Aircraft Engines and Seamanship.

v. You will need to obtain the medical fitness certificate from the AFCME or IAM.

vi. You must be at least 17 years old.

viii. You must have passed Class XII or equivalent exam with Physics, Maths and Chemistry as your subjects.

Damages: The per hour cost of flying is quite steep: about Rs 3,500.

To get a PPL, you need at least 60 hours of flying. Thus the total cost of obtaining a PPL will be a cool Rs 2 lakh (Rs 200,000)!

Commercial Pilot License :

This license is the most important license to become a commercial pilot.

i. The age bracket for getting a CPL is between 18 years and 30 years.

ii. You need a minimum of 250 hours of flying to get this license. Of this, 150 hours have to be solo flying, 25 hours of cross-country flying, 10 hours of instrument flying (which means you rely only on the plane's instruments for flying without looking at the horizon or external assistance), and 5 hours of flying in the night.

iii. A medical certificate from ACFME or IAM and theory tests in Air Regulations, Aviation Meteorology, Air Navigation, Technical and Planning are other important parts of the process.

iv. You can get the Private Helicopter License if you complete 40 hours of flight training with 15 hours of solo flying. Written exams on basic aviation subjects have to be taken.

v. To get a Commercial Helicopter Pilot License, you need 60 hours of flight training as well as appear for a written exam.

vi. Helicopter pilots are hired by public and private sector corporates as well as security agencies.

Damages: A steep Rs 9 lakh (Rs 900,000). For a Commercial Helicopter Pilot License, the cost could go up to Rs 13 lakh (Rs 1.3 million)!

Airline Transport Pilot's License :

The above mentioned licenses can only allow you to fly as a co-pilot. If you want to take over as captain, you need the Airline Transport Pilot's License, which is the highest aviation license available.

Along with clearing written papers, you also need to clock a total of 1,500 flying hours and take medical tests.

Damages: It costs Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 per hour. Often, the airline you work for may sponsor the training costs.

Additional Training And Information

Once you get the CPL, you may want to go in for multi engine training.

After seven to 10 hours of multi engine training on a certain aircraft, your license will carry an endorsement of the aircraft you have flown.

All the above licenses need to be renewed regularly. You must adhere strictly to medical tests.

Fly one hour after your license expires, and you will be banned from flying ever again!

Medical conditions and regular exam clearances notwithstanding, a pilot can continue in this career till 61 years.

Damages: Multi engine flight training is very expensive and can cost anything between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 per hour.

Poetry Books
A poem is defined as a composition written in verse (although verse has been equally used for epic and dramatic fiction). Poems rely heavily on imagery, precise word choice, and metaphor; they may take the form of measures consisting of patterns of stresses (metric feet) or of patterns of different-length syllables (as in classical prosody); and they may or may not utilize rhyme. One cannot readily characterize poetry precisely. Typically though, poetry as a form of literature makes some significant use of the formal properties of the words it uses — the properties attached to the written or spoken form of the words, rather than to their meaning. Metre depends on syllables and on rhythms of speech; rhyme and alliteration depend on words
Poetry perhaps pre-dates other forms of literature: early known examples include the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh (dated from around 2700 B.C.), parts of the Bible, the surviving works of Homer (the Iliad and the Odyssey), and the Indian epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. In cultures based primarily on oral traditions the formal characteristics of poetry often have a mnemonic function, and important texts: legal, genealogical or moral, for example, may appear first in verse form.
Some poetry uses specific forms: the haiku, the limerick, or the sonnet, for example. A traditional haiku written in Japanese must have something to do with nature, contain seventeen onji (syllables), distributed over three lines in groups of five, seven, and five, and should also have a kigo, a specific word indicating a season. A limerick has five lines, with a rhyme scheme of AABBA, and line lengths of 3,3,2,2,3 stressed syllables. It traditionally has a less reverent attitude towards nature. Poetry not adhering to a formal poetic structure is called "free verse"
Language and tradition dictate some poetic norms: Persian poetry always rhymes, Greek poetry rarely rhymes, Italian or French poetry often does, English and German can go either way (although modern non-rhyming poetry often, perhaps unfairly, has a more "serious" aura). Perhaps the most paradigmatic style of English poetry, blank verse, as exemplified in works by Shakespeare and by Milton, consists of unrhymed iambic pentameters. Some languages prefer longer lines; some shorter ones. Some of these conventions result from the ease of fitting a specific language's vocabulary and grammar into certain structures, rather than into others; for example, some languages contain more rhyming words than others, or typically have longer words. Other structural conventions come about as the result of historical accidents, where many speakers of a language associate good poetry with a verse form preferred by a particular skilled or popular poet.
Works for theatre (see below) traditionally took verse form. This has now become rare outside opera and musicals, although many would argue that the language of drama remains intrinsically poetic.
In recent years, digital poetry has arisen that takes advantage of the artistic, publishing, and synthetic qualities of digital media.
